Jason Tate is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based out of Portland, Oregon.
Jason distills his lifetime love and exploration of music into his own unique and instantly recognizable brand of Alt-Americana, or “y’allternative” music. His songs explore the challenges of modern existence - love, loss, and vulnerability - using metaphor and humor - but just beneath the surface often lies a layer of meaning and insight that folks find relatable - whether exploring ideas about community, masculinity, or heartbreak.
Jason has assembled a band of some of the finest dark wave musicians in Portland – and somehow convinced them all to play country music. The Surly Uncles features Rob and Ragon of the Cure and Depeche Mode (aka Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Constant Debauchery), as well as the incomparable Rebecca Olachea (Johnny O) on drums (Siouxsie and the Banshees aka Precious Machinery, as well as the original band Ladybug Infestation).
What happens when these dark wave musicians don cowboy hats? Come find out!
Jason is pleased to announce his newest album Songs About Trucks, released worldwide in July 2026. Featuring the hit sensations My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend's Truck and Oregon Girl - Songs About Trucks transports the listener to a simpler time, when hearts were pure and melodies true.
